Finding Your Way Back To Health

finding way back to healthStress can make us get lost on our track of good health and we tend to have an unhealthy lifestyle.  Our lives become so hectic such that we don’t bother if we make good choices and we indulge in unhealthy habits a such as drinking more alcohol, smoking,  eating foods with more sugar and fat,  stop going to the gym and this has made you gain excess weight.  This unhealthy behavior plus stress has made it difficult for you to sleep well and it has really affected your health. All you need now is to stop and reevaluate your life and see how you can find your way back to health.

Finding your way back to health is the best way possible, but it can be difficult to get back on track.  Some simple ways that can help include:

  • Let go of the unhealthy thoughts that are causing you to have much stress and making your life hectic.  The mind fabricates all the unhealthy thoughts of what you can or can’t do and who you are and this will make you never to get back on track.  The thoughts will always seem true to you so you need to learn how to look beyond them and take control of your life.  Allan Lokos says “Don’t believe everything you think. Thoughts are just that – thoughts.”
  • You also need to realize that it is ok to start over again and get healthy and fit again. Failing or falling off the health track doesn’t mean that you can’t go back to it and more so many people have been there. Therefore, change your mindset on how you approach life and ways that will improve your lifestyle. Cleanse yourself, let go of all the limitations and keep off the things or people making your life hectic and start over.
  • Take a slow and steady approach to weight loss because they are more sustainable rather than the crash diets which will make you lose weight but not in a healthy way and are not sustainable.   Have a good relationship with food by choosing healthy, balanced and avoid foods that are processed as they contain a lot of sugar, salt, and fat. Eat more of vegetables and fruits as they are filling and they have low amounts of calories which will help in losing weight. Cut down on your alcohol as it contains empty calories, which make you fat rather take more water. Start exercising in small bits and with time you will get there.
  • Get support from family or a friend and let them know that you are back on the track to getting healthy. They need to support you in all the best ways possible, such as motivating you, joining in your walks or exercises. They will also check on you regularly and see if you are on track
  • Lastly, don’t give up. The journey will be frustrating and you may get angry and wish to give up, but you need to remember why you are on this track. It will be worth it at the end if only you stick to what to healthy ways.

Hоw tо Kеер Yоur Lymphatic System Healthy

Keeping уоur lymphatic system in proper working order iѕ vital tо maintaining good health. It interacts with еvеrу organ in уоur bоdу аnd serves tо protect it аgаinѕt infection. Thе lymphatic system iѕ composed оf a network оf lymph vessels thrоugh whiсh a fluid called lymph flows. Lymph iѕ composed оf plasma аnd оthеr excess fluids frоm vаriоuѕ parts оf уоur body. Onсе thе lymph enters thе lymph system, it iѕ filtered thrоugh thе lymph nodes whiсh аrе connected bу thе lymph vessels. Lymph nodes аrе filters thаt remove impurities, аѕ wеll аѕ potentially harmful bacteria in order tо prevent thеm frоm entering уоur bloodstream.

Thе lymph nodes produce lymphocytes, a ѕресiаl type оf white blood cell created in thе bone marrow аѕ wеll аѕ in оthеr organs in thе lymph system ѕuсh аѕ thе spleen, tonsils аnd thе thymus gland. Thеrе аrе twо types оf lymphocytes whiсh асt in diffеrеnt wауѕ tо destroy impurities аnd infections. Thе T-cell lymphocyte releases diffеrеnt types оf T-cells in order tо destroy antigens ѕuсh аѕ bacteria аnd toxins, whilе thе B-cell lymphocyte differentiates intо plasma cells in response tо infection, whiсh secrete antibodies tо eliminate it. Whеn lymph nodes аrе rеѕроnding tо infection thеу mау bесоmе swollen аnd tender.

Whеn thе lymphatic system iѕ nоt working properly, thе flow оf lymph thrоugh thе bоdу iѕ impaired, causing thе buildup оf toxins аnd a range оf health problems. Fоr example, toxic build-up саn саuѕе ѕkin problems ѕuсh аѕ acne, eczema, wrinkled аnd aged-looking skin, sensitive skin, cellulite (the orange peel effect), whiсh аrе bumps, fluid аnd fat juѕt undеr thе skin. In addition, chronically blocked lymph nodes саn result in medical conditions ѕuсh аѕ allergies, chronic sinusitis, chronic fatigue, arthritis, balance problems аnd cancer.

Hеrе аrе ѕоmе measures уоu саn tаkе tо strengthen уоur lymphatic system:

  1. Hаvе a regular exercise program. Lymph iѕ circulated uѕing thе movement оf уоur muscles . Bеing physically active саn hеlр thе fluid move mоrе smoothly throughout thе lymph vessels. In addition, уоu саn practice yoga breathing exercises ѕinсе thе movement оf thе diaphragm аlѕо helps thе movement оf thе lymph whilе deep breathing аlѕо increases thе amount оf oxygen in уоur blood.
  2. Incorporate lymphatic massage at the WBHC with Daneen Kimbrell. A lymphatic massage targets the lymph system. Come to the Whole Body Healing Center at least once a month and receive a therapeutic lymphatic session. Trу adding aromatherapy to enhance your massage session. Cypress, orange and citrus fresh from Young Living are recommended to cleanse уоur lymph system аnd it may promote thе flow оf lymph fluid.
  3. Add dry brushing to your daily routine. Dry brushing will help increase circulation. Start with уоur feet аnd legs аnd move upward, with a gentle but firm pressure, but аlwауѕ moving toward thе chest.
  4. Hot baths. Yоu саn eliminate toxins frоm уоur lymphatic system bу taking hot baths with Epsom salts and add 4 drops each of Young Living nontoxic lavender and purification essential oils. Try and soak weekly.
  5. Rebounding.  Rebounding is probably the #1 at home exercise you can do to improve your lymph system.  7 minutes 2x daily is a good amount of lymph therapy for you.  It protects your joints and protects you from getting cardiovascular disease.  You can burn more calories than running.  Will also help improve your sleep. This exercise can be done year around in your home.

Call the WBHC today to schedule your Lymph Session with Daneen.  We would love to work with you.

Men’s Health Part 3: How to Keep Men’s Hormones in Balance

A man’s body is ruled by hormones, who am I kidding, of course, all bodies are ruled by hormones. However, in the male species, there are key hormones that deeply influence the nature of man. Cortisol levels, Testosterone and the growth hormones have a deep and profound impact on a man’s health. Therefore, maintaining regular levels of these hormones is crucial.

Scientists have suggested that there is a direct link to looking fit and young, full of health to our body hormones. Most importantly, the three hormones mentioned above are the ‘dons’ of health. They determine how you’ll look, feel (mood) and live.

Manliness is all about Testosterone, therefore, it would be prudent if we began with it. Testosterone is basically responsible for a man’s confidence, drive, and desire for sex. Unfortunately, as men age, testosterone levels dip by about 1% per year. Too bad, I suppose the notion that “men get better with age” is a fallacy. Moreover, testosterone levels also drop when a man gets married and after having kids.

The curious part is that men aren’t experiencing low T levels just because of aging anymore. Testosterone declines are being affected by unhealthy habits and modern day ultra fast pace of life. For instance, lack of adequate sleep and increased stress levels lower testosterone levels. In addition, modern poor and unhealthy eating habits are also a major cause.

Insulin, Testosterone and Growth Hormone

Eating too many carbohydrates raises insulin levels, and insulin, on the other hand, has a negatively impacts both the growth and testosterone hormone. On the other hand, not eating the right amount and kind of fats and oils or by not getting enough of the healthy kind of cholesterol will also keep your testosterones low.

Low Testosterone levels Impact on Health

The impact of low testosterone levels on your health can be a domino effect. First, your sex drive may fade. In addition, you’ll have a harder time getting in shape when you exercise. You may also experience fatigue.

A curious evolutionary reaction suggests that women are less attracted to male partners with low Testosterone levels, also they may have a harder time conceiving due to their partner’s drop in sperm count.

Low Testosterone levels are also responsible for serious health issues like obesity, heart disease, sleep apnea, and other chronic diseases

How the Growth Hormone Affects Men’s Health

Just as its name suggests, the growth hormone helps in your physical growth. Its levels usually spike during puberty, where we experience major physical changes in our bodies. As we age, growth hormone drops and this affects body composition in a number of ways. Growth hormone is also responsible for workout recovery and it also acts as a testosterone booster. Side effects associated with increased growth hormone levels include increased blood pressure and spikes in blood sugar as well.

How Cortisol Affects Men’s Health

Your level of cortisol is inversely related to your growth hormone levels. That is, low cortisol levels boost growth hormone. Cortisol is also referred to as the stress hormone. Increases levels of stress lower your cortisol levels.

High cortisol levels can lead to weight gain, in the wrong places, like in the lower abdomen and thigh region and have further been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

Men’s Health Part 2: 6 Ways Stress Affects Men’s Health

I am on a mens health kick this month.  I want to get men thinking more about their wellness and doing something to improve their health.  If you are reading this article, please consider coming to us at the WBHC to let us help you get your health back on track.

Stress the unimaginable foe, the unseen, uninvited guest, some kind of a wrathful divinity. Stress significantly impacts men’s health. Luckily, more research is being done on the nature of stress and anxiety and presently better diagnosis is being done and we are gaining a better understanding of it. Stress indeed can be downright strange.

In this article, we are going to delve deeper into the mysteries of stress and why it is of great concern. Here, are some reasons why stress needs to be managed and kept a tight lid.

Stress can change your taste in women

Do you find that your taste in women has changed? Stress can influence a man’s decision as well. It has also been noticed that men self-medicate with poor decisions that further mess up their judgment, e.g. taking drugs, binging on alcohol and risky sexual behaviors.

Men take stress harder than women

According to the common notion, men are viewed as “rocks,” impervious to feelings and most importantly stress. However, recent studies have determined that women indeed, do fair better in dealing with stress than men. In addition, in relation to gender differences, the effects of stress manifest themselves negatively on men’s health. In fact, men under stress or dealing with depression have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease or suffered a heart attack, according to these studies.

High anxiety levels can be life-threatening

Increased anxiety levels emanating from stressful events like the loss of a loved one, or loss of a job, marital separation or divorce can have serious physical and mental consequences. Heart disease in men has also been linked to these major stress triggers. Major depression soon follows, leading to substance abuse and poor dieting. Suicidal tendencies also follow.

Stress makes men eat their feelings

Similar to women, increased stress in men, negatively affects their lifestyle and behavior choices as well. Irregular eating habits are also a cause, skipping meals and eating more consuming extra calories.

There is increased risk of obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and even stroke all at ones!

Stress is bad for your heart

There is no denying it now, stress doesn’t equal a healthy heart. From intensive research done, high stress increases the risk for coronary heart disease. Moreover, stress actually manifest themselves physically in your body. Stress triggers inflammation, which traps cholesterol particles and they get deposited in blood vessels.

Stress can lead to belly fat and diabetes type 2

Aside from poor eating habits, stress also results in belly fat deposition, a side effect of consuming calories and also due to increased cortisol levels (the stress hormone). In addition, elevated stress levels can also cause a spike in insulin levels, which is a major risk factor for metabolic disorders and type 2 diabetes.

Stress and Muscle Mass

Stress affects the regular uptake of protein to muscle tissues, leading to loss of muscle mass.

Final thoughts, if you are experiencing stressful situations or diagnosed with stress, take the opportunity to explore relaxation and other meditation techniques to protect yourself, body and mind together.

Stress is #1 cause of all disease

We all have stress, but managing stress is the issue.  How one person manages it versus another person can be the biggest difference.  Stress can manifest in many ways, being dehydrated, not getting good sleep, driving in traffic, your kids, your work schedule, not eating a good diet, computers and technology etc etc.  So think about that.  Nobody will have zero stress even if they say they do.  Its impossible.  So find ways to reduce stress.  Deep breathing often throughout the day, yoga, exercise, prayer, meditation are a few good ways you can reduce stress.  So find something that works for you.
